  • My pastor is celebrating Darwin's birthday by writing a blog entry urging evangelicals to stop bashing Darwin. His main emphasis is that so many people have been turned away from Christ by an unnecessary and harsh--and often ignorant--criticism of science. His goal is to make the evangelical community open to people who don't want to have to change their scientific beliefs in order to be accepted in the church. (See his blog at .)

I have had some intense but cordial discussions with him on the topic, being that I am a young earth creationist. I cringe at the idea of theistic evolution being promoted in the evangelical church, because I would rather see a better understanding of the science of creationism, as opposed to the ignorant arguments too often made in defense of creationism and against evolution. But I agree with his main concern: The gospel should be first, and if we create a barrier to people not related to faith in God, then we are hurting evangelism.
  • Well... not first Adam... not last Adam. And realising that evolution being one of the main intellectual barriers to people coming to Christ (and Non-believers do see the incompatibility and know it), pushing it aside... from experience... is what keeps people away from church - where they thing that church is just a bunch of nut-heads who still believe that we are all sinners.

No genesis, no morality, no basis for sin = no gospel. No 1st Adam = no last Adam.
